Reflections on the Qur'an: Understanding Surahs Al-Fatiha and Al-Baqarah
From the preface: "These reflections see the Divine Book as encountering the situation we face today --- guiding the present-day world which it sees as being on the verge of destruction, due to its neglect of the Hereafter and prevalent lordship of man over man... The author is of the view that the Ummah's revival is not possible without its people building up a direct relationship with the Divine Words." Irfan Ahmad Khan (b. 1931) learned Islamic sciences and classical Arabic from ulama in Rampur, India and obtained a Ph.D in Philosophy from the University of Illinois. For the past thrity years he has been working with the graduates of the Western universities in developing a methodology for understanding the Qur'an. This book is a result of a lifelong effort at reflecting and understanding the Qur'an, albeit in light of the tafsirs of the established scholars.
