The translated text is the introduction to a large multi-volume work in Arabic called I'la as-Sunan. The original work was a response to the ahle hadith allegation that the school of Imam Abu Hanifah is deprived of hadith. In this introduction, the author pens his methodology for writing the I'la as-Sunan. The author endeavours to deconstruct the false understanding that hadith science is absolute and fixed. He argues that since the science of hadith is not prescriptive in the shariah, no one group can lay claim to it or claim a universal understanding of it. This book will be of interest to students who have a penchant for abstract theories and methods and to the advanced students of hadith and Islamic thoughts.
Causes and Remedies of the Recent Financial Crisis From an Islamic Perspective As the leading authority on modern Islamic finance in the world today, no one was better qualified to speak for Islam at the annual World Economic Forum following the global financial crisis in 2010. In his address, Mufti Taqi Usmani pointed out that the so-called crisis only came about when it knocked at the doors of the wealthy.' In the pages of this slim volume, the reader will find a concise study of the fundamental flaws in the global economic system, and the eternal principles articulated by the Shariah of Islam that point to a solution. - Yusuf Talal DeLorenzo, Shariah Consultant to Global Financial Institutions Mufti Taqis paper, written in the context of global financial crisis, calls for universal change in our attitude toward the treatment of money and the role of financial system in our lives. Shaykh ’Abū al-Hasan ‘Alī Nadwī (1914-1999/1332-1419 AH), one of the most widely read and influential scholars of our time, was likened by his intellectual peers to the exemplary scholars of the earliest generations of Islam. His writings have been translated from Arabic or Urdu into all of the major languages of the world and remain popular from one generation to the next. In this account by a former student, various aspects of Shaykh ’Abū al-Hasan’s life and works are presented – his education and upbringing, his role as a leader and guide, his writings, and his da‘wah and tarbiyah (calling people to Islam and training others to do so). This biography sets out his response to groups and movements that did not share his distinctive approach to issues of concern to Muslims. The unifying theme of the book is Shaykh Nadwī’s timeless commitment, as a scholar and dā‘ī, to the spiritual well-being of Muslims, emphasising their relationship with God and each other, and their response to Western cultural influences.
