This book is a combination of religious and medical information, providing advice and guidance on the two aims of medicine - the preservation and the restoration of health - in careful conformity with the teachings of Islam as enshrined in the Qur'an and hadith. Written in the 14th centruy by Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya as part of his work Zad al-Ma'ad this book is a mine of information on both the sayings of the Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, and herbal and medical practices. This translation was done by Penelope Johnstone who holds a doctorate in the history of Arabic medicine and herbals.
